LEGO Horizon Adventures Review (ips10181990)
LEGO Horizon Adventures presents a bit of a conundrum. On one hand, I hand a lot of fun playing this game, on the other I can see why people wouldn't want to shell out 60 dollars for this game. Here are my thoughts
The positives
LEGO Horizon Adventures presents the world of HZD entirely built from LEGOs. The game is very aesthestically pleasing, definetley the most gorgeous LEGO game I've seen. Its also alot of fun, as this game has a level up system, upgrades, and some genuinely challenging fights towards the end. Its also simple and engaging enough that a child could play this or a parent and child together, and thats ultimatley what LEGO games are for, good family fun. The retelling of the 1st game is also interesting as the game brings LEGO's sense of humor to the franchise (whether you think that's cringe or not is up to you).
Cons
The game is short, probably less then ten hours if you just stick to main story, probably 18-23 hours if you go for max completion. Another issue isn't doesn't feel as rewarding of a game as the previous LEGO games have been. gone is any reason to replay an older level, as there are no hidden collectibles on the map. That is a huge departure from previous LEGO games where the collectathon was where the majority of the time went. Sure there are Apex hunts for additional challenge, and while they are fun, its not quite the same. Some may also have issue with the fact that you have to have an epic account to play this game, as well as a sony account. This telephone chain of requirements may also turn people off.
Conclusion
At the end of the day, Horizon LEGO Adventures is a perfectly mediocre game, it provides a new retelling of the series with LEGO's brand of adventure and humor. While the game is short, if you enjoy LEGO games but understand there isn't as much here as in previous games, go for it. If you are on the fence, wait for a sell. If you are afraid that you are missing out on a life changing experience, you arent.
I give LEGO Horizon Adventures a 7/10.
