Layers of Fear: Inheritance Review (DeadeGuard98)

Curator page here--> DaRevieweD #21a<-- New review every weekend

Here's The Thing:
She was seized by child protective services at a young and delicate age because of a most tragic circumstance. But now, the prodigal daughter of The Painter returns home to collect her inheritance and relive every bittersweet childhood recollection.

PROS;

:) I applauded the main campaign visually but here the artistry especially sparkles and further distinguishes the daughter's identity from her daddy! It's true what they say- a child's imagination is indeed boundless.

:) Composer made beautiful and raw art yet again with two strikingly slower, more torn and somber “part 2” renditions. A neat little continuation of tone that ties into the base game’s mood. Maybe it never left home…

:) The story of a broken household deepens... This time it delves into how the child was victimized instead of an outlier victim. Pressured to follow in whose footsteps and being the center of the abuse.

:) The endings are much easier to get to. Clearer reasoning as well, such as the case of having to pick favorites... Which is certainly relatable.

CONS;

:( Suffers from the same "non-scary" issues from the campaign. I can’t rack my brain around it. Definitely atmospheric nevertheless but the absence of a primary antagonist really hurt it. Ironically enough, seeing too much of the ghost mother was the reason why the main game wasn't scary...

:( Puzzles were basically omitted. Instead, it is replaced entirely by finding items.

MIXED;

:| A case can be made as to why the events from "The Inheritance" wasn't the main narrative instead?

:| I get that the house is abandoned now and that the family has a schizophrenic history. But where on earth did the light switches go? AND is there a continuity error of sorts- as in to say is this really still the same house from Layers of Fear??

8/10

Last Words?
Material fit for a standalone title than DLC. Horrors still brushed aside but the even more lamentable story & choices spilled on you make it a masterpiece superseding the prequel and all DAD drivel~
