Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning - Fatesworn Review (Severage)
I do hope the game eventually gets a modern sequel, but I hope the lore from the base game is kept intact by a team of devs that actually cares about it.
Have to agree with most reviews here, the Fatesworn DLC was not as interesting or fun as the base game DLCs. In addition, the lore had me scratching my head, I'm glad I read reviews from others here which made it make sense to me that they just retconned or didn't understand base game lore.
Fatesworn also attempts to elevate the game by creating real, large cities, but unfortunately these are intrinsically incompatible with the game and create new bugs such as pop-ins, quest indicator bugs, and also at times makes absolutely zero sense as enough enemies to take over the town might walk around 15 feet or less away from civilians for no reason.
The original lore was a wonderful piece of work, and very compelling. What happens in Fatesworn is not just generic, it completely undermines and contradicts the original work, as if they had no idea what happened in the original game.
Let's not even start on all the weird quests that require daytime cycles (Which are only loosely implemented into the game and there is no way to skip through them), an inordinate amount of busywork, and the fact that the original game + DLCs were already massive for a game of this scope.
The original game capping you at level 40 was already generous, as the game really only let you get to that level if you had the DLCs, or were a real grinder (For no reason, since the game is quite easy). While the original game + DLCs were great, it already had you thinking "Okay, that was real fun, but that's enough Kingdoms of Amalur". The gameplay loops are just not interesting enough to play ad infinitum.
Which brings us to Fatesworn, where some of the worst parts of that show their ugly backside once again and make you weep between achievement hunting or just not spending another 20 hours doing repetitions of nonsensical work.
I can't really recommend this DLC, which is a shame because I love KoA and I would love for there to be a sequel work that did it justice.
If I do replay the game, I will simply not replay the Fatesworn DLC.
