Kingdom Two Crowns Review (Hyphesus)
Kingdom : Two Crowns is a good piece of work that accomplishes two elements nicely; the perfect atmosphere with spectacular pixel art&music, the deconstruction of old strategy games and putting those elements in a sidescroller game with constructive way. I was captivated when i first turned up the game.
Witnessing the beautiful seasons of this world with chill and fantastic soundtrack is one of the best experiences out there. The art style consistency they achieved here is really something.
Gameplay is phenamonal, you basically hire people and let them join to your cause, build whatever you need to build and allocate those people's jobs to both defend&expand. Even though the controls are simple, the gameplay is deep-ish so thats a nice accomplishment from devs.
If i were to criticize this game in the aspect of 'strategy games' , what I feel towards this game is simply : "side scrolling 2d Age of Empires with less button usage which got kind of ruined by the NPC's auto-behaviour". Even though this sentence might sound negative, it is actually a huge compliment since I've been an aoe enjoyer for years. But it doesn't change the fact that friendly npc AI is bad at times. You may want your buildings to be built by the end of the morning, but sometimes they don't come over to you or only 1 of them works at them, not 2. sometimes the tank in the front should stay as a guard to make the archers escape, but instead they flee first causing a lot of casulties. These kind of examples were all over the place in my runs, and it's good to note that this problem is worse in their older games(newlands, classic). But other than that, I didn't really felt bad towards the game. It was such a fun experience.
Overall for me it was like 8-8,5/10 game, and I'd love to see this game with a better goal(like some sort of a boss fight or invasion to the greed nation) and with better AI. If the reader of this review is just wondering to buy this game or not, just buy it and play it ; I don't think you'll be regretting it. If the reader of this review is one of the developers of this game, please make the ai better for this game and fix the ai in classic&newlands as well.
