Kingdom: New Lands Review (andafer2003)
WARNING: this might not be the game for you
Me? 127 hrs of gameplay should tell you how I feel about the game, so lets give you a description focusing on the gameplay, this is a very specific game and im not going to try to sell it to you talking about the graphics, the music, etc.
Story? none, you're just a random shipwrecked king/queen who runs from on side of a randomly generated island doing the following
1-exploring
2-paying vagrants to be youj peasants
3-giving them jobs (hunter/worker/farmer/captain)
4-Giving instructions on what and where to build
5-sending attack parties to shut down portals from which you are attacked
6-Building the ship to get off that island before you kingdom is overrun
7- escaping from hordes of "thieves" who will steal your crown if you dont think fast (lose the crown, game over)
For all that you have to:
1-manage resources. Its all about coins, which you get from you hunters hunting, your farmer marming, banking interest and some other very interesting ways
2-Unlock mounts and hermits and statues with different skills, all of which you'll have to take care of for the durantion of that islands run
3- defend at night, which becomes a bit harder every night
4- At every moment, you'll have to both be quick on your feet and plan ahead both the structure of your kingdom and the timing of your actions
The main thing which will decide if this game is for you or not is that is was originally designed for you to lose (relax, theres a way to end the game victorious and even a reward for it). Smaller Islands give you less time before resources run out due to the pasing of the seasons without cycling back to the better seasons. This a game about intelligence, versatility and ENDURANCE (much like a kingdom ought ot be).
So have a nice one, and if you like it, theres a two player version im gonna check out next
