Keep Driving Review (Silver)
This is more of a maybe, but criticism tends to get washed away in positive reviews.
The game has some amazing atmosphere, fun concepts, and some really troubling balancing. Everything is bottlenecked by cash. You need cash to feed yourself, you need cash to repair your car, you need cash to fuel it up, and you can't AVOID these things. Your car will guzzle gas and take damage every road. The stuff aint cheap either. But you also have very little means of getting cash. Rarely, you can loot some crap worth 4 bucks from an event, or you can get 10 bucks if the stars align and you use a specific ability on a perfect one of a kind line up, but those are just drops in the bucket compared to how much cash you need. The only real way of earning serious cash comes in the form of jobs.
But, jobs aren't good either. They pay roughly $50 which doesn't seem too bad, until you realize the job requires you to drive 3-5 stops away to complete while (typically) going out of your way. By the time you finish the job and get your pay, then get back on track, you probably didn't even break even. Everything is balanced on cash and it honestly really sucks to slowly watch it bleed out.
Granted, losing all your gas or durability while broke isn't a game over. You can still call your parents to help you. But if you chose to have a bad relationship with them, that isn't an option. And if you do have a good relationship, the option is still... Lame? It almost feels as though the game is balanced around calling your parents, as they give you a half repair, half refill, and 200 bucks which blows your starting cash out of the water.
Completing hitchiker quests may be a good way to earn cash as well, however the single quest I completed (The convict) gave me a gun. Which I can't sell anywhere. And also makes me liable to go to jail if I ever lose to a cop event. And I can't discard it either.
Okay I guess.
