Journey to the Savage Planet Review (Steelio)

I can't believe this game has such high reviews. Has anyone played it for more than a few hours, or ever played literally: Any. Other. Game...?

I'm really struggling with this. There are a lot of things I like about it, but at the end of the day it keeps pissing me off constantly.

First of there's no single player pause button, which is extremely annoying. There's a death penalty of losing your goods to a crate you have to go pick up again and when you die it teleports you back to your ship. So you have to walk all the way back to where you were and then pick up your stuff on the way, if it didn't get teleported somewhere random (it rarely is where I died)

This game is an exploring platformer WITH NO MAP. I'm constantly lost and not in a fun exploration way, in an infuriating I-just-want-to-get-back-to-where-I-was-before-I-died kinda way.

I think the thing that I dislike the most is the clunky controls and glitchy items. ITS A PRECISION PLATFORMER FFS, THE DEVELOPER NEEDS TO ADD PRECISION. I can't tell you how many hours I've wasted just because my grappling hook didn't engage and I fell to an unwanted platform that is a 15 minute climb back up - that is if I knew where I was going... No map = lost unless you memorize the area.

The graphics are pretty bad as well. The game feels almost unfinished, there's not a lot of variation, I've come across maybe 4 different enemies in 12 hours play, they have different variations of the same enemy (electric, acid etc) but it's all essentially the exact same graphic/animations.

I see tons of pixelation even in 4k. The graphics just aren't crisp, even on simple static background objects that they should be. I'm guessing it's the unreal engine, because that's what it feels like. I'm probably going to finish this so it doesn't tank my achievement ratio, but I wouldn't recommend it in the least. It's a generic unreal clone with bad platforming, stupid death punishments, no map and no pause button. There's also no auto aim in the combat which also makes things more irritating. Play anything else I'd recommend Physchonauts 1000x over this.

Oh, the voice acting is pretty bland too, I'd give it a 1/10 except they saved it when they put Kenny Hotz in an infomercial which automatically bumps it to 5/10
