It Takes Two Review (Skitz)
A Must Play For Couples
This game pushes a positive message that I don't think I've seen before in a video game:
- "Marriages will have problems"
- "It may feel like there are no resolutions, but it IS possible to salvage the marriage"
- "It's not just about you, think about the effects divorce has on the young children" (my favourite one)
It makes for some surprisingly unique and shockingly dark gameplay. We couldn't believe some of the things we saw (Cutie). The absolute horror, dear gawd....we will never forget lol. I haven't played a co-op game this clever since "A Way Out". The mechanics stay fresh as they keep changing, and they are implemented in really fun and imaginative ways. Ways I've never seen before. Sometimes we stopped moving forward just to have fun goofing around and enjoying whatever mechanic was being implemented at the time. There are mini games littered throughout that are all a blast to play (at least once), and they let you take a break from working together for some friendly competition/feud building.
The controls are responsive, and the graphics are pretty damn good especially if you have the hardware for it. We had a lot of laughs with the characters and the writing, and the voice acting was spot on. Everything feels top notch. I do have small gripes though. First is with the audio. It's happened probably 3 or 4 times during our 16hr playthrough. Sometimes the audio would go out and never return, or go out and return when the sequence changed, then go out again when the sequence changed again. The only fix for this was a hard restart. We've also had UE4 crashes, and even a game breaking bug that we fixed by restarting and doing the sequence over like 3 times. While most of the experience was smooth, it DID happen enough to start slightly getting under our skin at certain points.
As a package though I'd still recommend this game to couples or people in long term relationships. It's a great co-op game period, but I think couples will definitely get the most out of it. If your relationship is currently on the rocks due to games like Overcooked, this game will have you sailing off into the sunset again. Best to wait for a sale though as there are indeed a few bugs, and your mileage may vary.
