Immortals of Aveum Review (Mufasa)

yikes.. firstly, I can not recommend this game. If you're on the fence with this game get off the fence and SPRINT in the opposite direction. This game has incredibly bad performance. I could not even maintain 60fps. This game features stutters, glitches, visual artifacting, unstable frametimes, DRM Denuvo, EA launcher and terrible writing and dialogue. I have to steal this saying from girlfriend reviews but this is a perfect example of "Diarrhea Christmas lights". Theres so much visual particle effects that sometimes you can not tell what's happening along with the FPS drops at the same time. You really only know you're hitting anything because of hit markers. This game just felt very sluggish, choppy and incredibly inconsistent. This game uses 3 types of magic color coded magic. blue, green, and red. Blue is basically your marksman rifle for precision, green is like your machine gun, and red is like a shotgun or rocket launcher. None of them felt particularly fun to use mostly do to the feeling of hitting your shots. There's no satisfying feedback at all. I got this game because a magic shooter (to me) sounds compelling and interesting. Along with the controls for this game feel like it's all over the place no matter if your playing on MNK or a controller. Like the default binds are terrible and theres too many abilities and 3 types of weapons you need to constantly cycle through.

Secondly, The dialogue and characters. The dialogue is mimicking the banter of the Marvel movies like Guardians of the Galaxy but somehow worse. I don't think the voice acting is bad but what they say gives me secondhand embarrassment. I believe the only good character in the game was Rook. The main protagonist(Jak) is whiny and annoying. He isn't very compelling at all. despite all the cringe at least the characters take the world and what's happening seriously.

Lastly, graphically the game looks great. detailed environments look amazing and there were times I was really immersed with how the world just looked. Really cool in certain darker areas how your magic reflects lights as it is traveling to hit your targets. There is definitely spectacle in scale and world building. however, The art style does leave a lot to be desired. Regarding the world and the story is pretty good and interesting. Feels like a story about humans in general striving for more tech more expansion or even just war and the impact it has on our world. The story and lore is incredibly dense and imaginative. The secret ending also just ruins the stakes to the story and its characters. Despite the game having a good story I seriously think this game is not worth your money at any price point but most importantly its not worth your time no matter who you are.

side note- the completion for this game is pretty painful, 150 gold chests to collect and back tracking the levels for them, getting all skill trees done but after beating the game you still don't have enough to max them all out. incredibly bad design.
