I Expect You to Die 2 Review (Matiorasu is on Youtube)
8/10
It's a good game and a worthy addition to the series, but I've got a few petty gripes for its execution.
Too many of the combination-lock-style puzzles are easy to brute-force. The locker code in the beginning of the game, the wine cellar towards the middle, The radio during the train section for the last game, the breakers during the plane section of this game. These puzzles all have one thing in common:
I solved all of them before I knew where to find the answer.
Granted, you can brute-force any puzzle in most games if you're determined enough, but codelocks in base three and binary lighting codes? That's baby's first brute-force.
Besides that, this whole game felt pretty anemic compared to the original, and I've got to wonder if it's because after a while you kind of 'get it' when it comes to IEYTD games. And puzzles that fail to innovate or improve upon the established formula are pretty easy to breeze past once all the pieces are in play.
I actually found one of the easter egg souveniers in the game because the easter egg was (to my mind) more obvious than the intended path. :/
I don't regret my purchase though. Great game all-around.
