Hypercharge: Unboxed Review (RockstarCRO)
This one feels like a hidden gem on Steam. Fun cooperative (or competitive) game based around the realm of toys. Even as an adult this is one fun game, and add the fact its local split screen simply adds the cherry on top. In short, would recommend a purchase on sale (and especially if friends are picking up a copy).
HYPERCHARGE: Unboxed (HU)'s gameplay is straight forward and simple. The game allows the player to switch between first person and third person, with a double jump and ledge climbing ability that is integral to the game's mechanics. The movement is smooth and doesn't feel janky. In the defence type game mode player's are challenged to collect a variation of secrets (from gap jumps, finding collectables, and tagging) in addition to collecting coins. As the player collects coins they are allowed to build a preset defence around coloured "towers". Around the map the player can purchase or find weapon upgrades. Two weapons are allowed to be equipped at once (such as shotgun and rifle), but bigger weapons such as a rocket launcher or mini-gun take up both slots. Eliminating enemies also gives the player credit to use towards defence. The enemies themselves are varied, fun, and challenging. From BeyBlades, to toy robots, to drones, to toy planes and jets, to tanks, to jeeps, etc... Each enemy adds a new challenge, and the game throws mini-bosses and large bosses the player's way. The better the player performs in levels means more game unlocks. This is an underrated feature in games as most games require some sort of pay to play. It is rewarding to play and be able to unlock levels, skins, or characters.
The visuals and graphics are spot on and absolutely immerse the player into the environment. Being a tiny toy in a giant room and navigating obstacles that a every day room would pose to such a small character is a fun universe to play in. The game does a good job notifying players of possible jumps, and the more familiar a player feels with the level - the more fun it is to jump from location to location. Animations are well done, especially when BeyBlades explode and when the toy robots get punched by the player causing a 360 spin. I also think majority of the level designs were extremely well done. The sounds and music are also suitable to the game's environment. Every little sound (from building to moving about the map) is included, and the music switches between some fun themes.
Overall, would highly recommend a purchase on sale (and especially with friends). It's a fun simple game I feel anyone can get into - and even appropriate enough if you're playing with kids. One major down side to the game is the inability to throw grenades. Beyond that - well done Devs.
