House Flipper: Pets Review (cannedgod)
I said I was done after my deleted save, but I really wanted the Pets DLC... what a buggy, unfinished mess.
-- Cons:
- There seems to be no rhyme or reason to the pets behaviors
- they float on beds, shake and get stuck in walls
- the toggle for whether theyre staying or following is unclear and they don't really do either, anyway.
- the traits given to the pets also seem to really not matter.
- training them doesnt seem to matter.
- My first dog was dirty. I bathed him. The end. He has yet to have any other needs, nor have the cat and additional dog I adopted.
- All of the adoptable pets are male? Not like there's any mechanics where that matters (nor do i want there to be), but with certain critters there's very real cage and home dynamics to consider when getting 2 males or 2 females or 1 of each, etc.
- Some of the quests make NO sense. Here, renovate my home. In this tiny bedroom, place a queen bed, a pinata, and a 500 gallon aquarium 3/4 full of hamster bedding. And a desk.
- A lot of new items have the same hitbox failures as earlier items. Why buy a food mat if you can't put the food and water on top of it?
- Why get a GIGANTIC hanging cat tree (not even the large one...the small one) that barely fits anywhere in the large homes... and you can't even put the cat's toys on it.
- All of the animal's toys just lay out on the ground. It would be nice if you could get a bucket or something so you aren't just using up your valuable square footage on tennis balls.
- We've still got the usual garbage where if you haven't purchased the separate garden DLC, you're hosed and will never have an immaculate home. Seriously, at this point include garden in the base game or keep a base + garden dlc bundle deal for like $25
- We've still got all of the original assets that frankly, I'd love if they spent some time just revisiting those and refreshing them so they aren't obvious low-poly free unity pieces.
- The buyer AIs have had hardly any improvement. With all of these new clients, we don't get any new buyers? Dolan Trunsk is really picking up farmland now?
--- Pros:
- The animals are (mostly) cute. -- The hamsters also look like unfinished afterthoughts.
- The new houses are a lot of fun.
- The new decor is also mostly nice and looks good. The light fixtures are all stupid and gimmicky -- we still lack good ceiling lights.
- It's nice they don't relieve themselves in homes im trying to clean. With that said, despite flavor text hinting that they might go potty in my office until theyre potty trained outside or on a mat.... they haven't relieved themselves at all.
Overall, it just feels very unfinished. And I'm very tired of Frozen Way/Empyrean releasing 60% complete content for $15 a piece. They're going full EA/Sims/Paradox on their business model but they are so far from being polished enough to get away with it that it's insulting. Pay your devs more, get more devs, and for gods sake invest in your QA & automated QA before you try such blatant cash grabs.
