House Flipper: Garden DLC Review (OrganizationOatmeal)
Didn't realize you could review individual DLCs until just now.
This DLC should have been part of the base game or a free update. I had that feeling when I first bought it and I still have that feeling now. This is a cheaply heaped together pile of assets and janky, difficult to control tools. If you don't buy this DLC, all the yards of your houses cannot be landscaped -- you can't even cut the grass. So if you want your yard to look even passable, you have to buy this DLC. And this was the first, but certainly not the last, time that FD decided to put QoL improvements behind the DLC paywall.
Spreading gravel or mulch is just spreading a crappy png on the floor. The trees and bushes are annoying to place because the shovel mechanic is jank -- and it's also ugly and lazy in terms of animation. You dip your shovel into the dirt and then the dirt vanishes. It's half an animation. The lawn-mower, even after being "fixed" is still incredibly frustrating to work with and the weed-whacker is basically useless. Rolling turf is inexact and incredibly tedious, as is placing down each individual garden tile. Ponds never look good, they /always/ look like bathtubs just stuck into the ground. In smaller yards, very little of the garden furniture fits well enough to look good.
This was their first DLC and I bought it to judge how House Flipper was going to grow. I was disappointed, and I continue to be. It's a shame.
