Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number Review (HomeInvasion2016)

There's 3 main reasons why Hotline Miami 2 stands out even from the original, and I'll get into them shortly to explain why it is such a great game.

1. Firstly the soundtrack composed by multiple different artists features both variety and immersion to each level, even intermissions making the game much more gripping. A dull moment might be underscored by something more subtle and relaxing, while a shootout will be filled with engaging and high-paced electronic music.

2. The overall story is easy to miss if you decide to focus more on game play, or playing to kill time which honestly does not at all effect the quality of life for the game, or cause much confusion. Honestly with other ips that already exist you could probably get through both game oblivious to the dialogue and not have any problems, but on the other hand it has one of the most rich and fleshed out stories I've played through. The environmental story-telling and ability to navigate certain aesthetics or ideas seamlessly greatly adds to the game.

3. The game play features difficult combat mechanics with punishing enemies and sometimes even worse RNG. It is without failure my single favorite system of combat for a top down game ever, the reason being any single shot or stray hit can be fatal to the player. They are forced to navigate entire levels without being able to tank and instead rely on agility and game sense. Even better much of the levels can be easily accomplished with 2 simple concepts, 1. Muscle memory 2. Confidence.

In summary my favorite game to play in my free time Hotline Miami meet it's faithful and gorgeous sequel, the end of a series done right. I highly recommend.
