Hiveswap Friendsim: Volume Seven Review (Toon)
Friendsim's recent volumes haven't been so great, with none of them coming close to being as good as Volume 1 and 3. So I didn't have the highest expectations for Volume Seven, but what do you know it's now tied for my favorite volume in the series.
Volume Seven reminds me a lot of Volume Three and I mean that in the best way possible. The art is spectacular for the characters and backgrounds, the music is nice, world building, Skylla returning , and the characters are strong troll girls who are both really hot.
First let's talk about Artist Vriska, Remele. Now I like Vriska, one of my favorite characters in anything ever, which is why I feel the need to judge Friendsim's Vriska clones so harshly. Spider Vriska, Ardata, was easily one of my favorite trolls as they had a bunch of Vriska's traits like all ceruleans do, but they were still able to be their own character. Then you have Lesbian Vriska, Elwurd, who is on the opposite end of the spectrum where they're just Vriska but lesbian. This all leads us to Remele, and boy she is some quality Vriska. Like Ardata before her she mainly shares the traits most ceruleans do, high ego, being smug, and likes to be an asshole. But Remele's other traits do a good job at complementing her cerulean characteristics while still making her feel different. Instead of being stuck up her ass 24/7 and feeling the need to constantly bully someone, she instead is more modest on the surface and can actually admit you aren't completely useless. Remele is what trolls in Friendsim should be, not just an exact clone of one of Homestuck's trolls just with a new trait slapped on, but an actual character with added traits from their blood color. Remele alone is worth buying this volume but we still have to talk about the other character in this volume, Konyyl.
Konyyl is a bit of a retread on Polypa but honestly she's just a better Polypa. She's buffer, angrier, and thicker. But yeah she isn't too remarkable herself, but her route is actually really good and Skylla returns and you get to hug her. Also you actually get a phone at the end which is obviously leading into you using it in a later volume, so thats neat.
Overall Volume 7 is really fucking good and is just really high quality compared to recent volumes and I have hope that we can get more volumes like this. Honestly just skip 4, 5, and 6 and just buy this one.
Score: 8/8
