Hiveswap Friendsim: Volume Eight Review (Toon)
Volume Eight is pretty good, but before I say why I must say i am immensely dissapointed in What Pumpkin for not having two cerulean bloods in Volume Eight. Besides that, this volume is really fucking good.
Volume 8 has all the usual good stuff like good art, music, characters, and writing, but it also has one other thing that I particularly like. All previous volumes have had both of their routes feel really disconnected, they had nothing linking them together besides a similar starting point. It's not really a downside, as stuff like Volume 3's routes being completely seperated meant that both would be completely unique. But Volume 8 connects its routes in a way that lets both routes feel unique while still giving the volume an overall theme. What is that theme? Troll Racism.
First is Tyzias and they're alright. They're a permanently tired lawyer who's cynical about everything and her route is mostly about how rigged the justice system is on Alternia and that trying to extinguish a fire by peeing on it, is still helping. The route also makes reference to actual events from Homestuck with the ancestors. Overall, Tyzias is a neat character with a pretty good route that shows more on fighting troll racism from the inside.
Chixie was a lot better than expected, not even in the way Elwurd was where she just wasn't complete garbage, but I actually ended up liking Chixie. Instead of being an attention whore who doesn't accept any criticism, she was instead just someone who wanted to get famous despite being a lowblood and will actually snap back when she gets stepped on. Her route takes a much more outside view of troll racism compared to Tyzias' and she politely tells some highbloods to consume weiner. Also you can get drunk with her and complain about stupid shit, so thats neat.
Volume Eight is just really good. Also Tagora and Zebruh return in Tyzias' and Chixie's routes respectively. Troll Robbie Rotten is still really good and Zebruh is still an ass. Also as of me writing this What Pumpkin somehow forgot to make their sprites actually exist.
