Hindsight Review (okMelon)
I do recommend this game. I dont think its really worth $15 but if you catch it on a good sale, I do think it is worth playing.
On that note, there are a few things that I believe lower this game's rankings in my mind.
1. The "gameplay" feels more like a chore than anything else. Implementing a unique gameplay mechanic into a game of this genre is tough to do well. From a technical standpoint I do admire the core gameplay mechanic, but after some time it feels slow to move the camera and slow when you travel from spot to spot, and all this for seemingly no reason other than that it makes the game "more game-y". I think this game could learn a lot from Before Your Eyes' gameplay and how it immerses the player into the game more rather than how the mechanic in Hindsight seems to make things worse.
2. The writing isnt great. Its not easy to feel attached to the main character. Hindsight would benefit from using more of a show dont tell writing format. Additionally, giving us better reason to care about the characters would give the story a better emotional kick. Having said that, I do recognize that one of the core takeaways of the story is that the main character doesn't really feel like she was able to get to know who her mom really was, so I do see how it might be challenging to create a strong emotional bond .
3. One more thing for the writing is the tone. The tone felt pretty constant, which isnt necessarily bad, but it makes it a little challenging to stay engaged. Im not sure how to describe it perfectly here, but there are quite a few parts that I think could use a change in tone, and music choice to make the deeper parts stand out more.
