Hindsight Review (El Bearsidente)
I am obviously not the type who plays games like this. I am a bear. I do bear things, like mauling people, liberating picnic baskets and sometimes breaking into cars because people leave Mars bars in them, and no, don't start joking how this is unbearable. No, I'm not the one who ruined that woman's canoe in that one viral video. How dare you.
Anyway. I wouldn't call this a game. It's an interactive story. Took me 3 hours to finish.
And let me tell you...
The game is gorgeous, the art style just fits. The story? Well...
There are too many moments in this where I thought "Who the hell was reading my mind and stealing some elements of my past when writing this?"
The one scene where protagonist talks about college. I almost threw my banana at the screen. No, that's not a euphemism. I mean a real banana. I just went "get out of my head!" Because that's literally me back in 1995.
There are these moments where I could see myself as the protagonist. That is brilliant, but also a wee bit scary. And the mechanics? What they do with the camera, how it reveals the next scene, crafty and smart. I love it. Sometimes it makes you feel like you're in a David Lynch movie.
I bought this on the recommendation of a Twitter acqaintance and she said I won't regret it. She was right. I did not regret this. Yes, it's short at 2-3 hours, but 100% worth the price IMHO, since the experience is spot on.
Going to buy the soundtrack, too, because it's fantastic.
