Hellboy: Web of Wyrd Review (BackStabberAssGrabber)

So even for a 25 dollar game... there's a lot missing from this game for it to be a successful rogue-like.
But there are organs missing from making this game keeping it from being a full game
What it has:
It has a solid skeletal structure: It has a solid game-play loop that keeps you coming back... for a while at least.
It has a strong beating heart: You can tell the devs had a love for the project and worked hard towards what was released and from other threads what was fixed after a while.
It has a fully functional brain: There was intelligence behind what the devs were doing... no real throw shit at the wall and see what sticks... they nailed the primary directive and kept going.
What it doesn't have:
It has no legs: Aside from the IP, this game has no mass appeal to get it lifted off the ground. If this game was an original IP it would have flopped, unfortunately... but also understandably
It has no guts: As far as a higher end (maybe double A to 3D Indie) this game doesn't do what other's in the same funding bracket does. Guts i actually mean the courage to do things very differently. This game is, in a bad way, something i expected it do be... no surprises in game play whatsoever.
It has no skin: Waaaay to much repetition for a rogue-like. Aside from some leveling up on some weapons and skills, no real variations or mutations. Full Stop the biggest problem.
It has no soul: Story wise and Game play-wise this game just doesn't make me think i'm reading a Hellboy comic. Mike Mignola I feel had a good story that was under constraints with the budget from devs and publishers... I don't know that for a fact... but it reflects as such with the overall outcome of the game. Play, Die, Level, Repeat. Most rogue-likes have evolved beyond and this game, i theorize to budget restrictions, could not.
The Fixes:
DLC: The game is 25 bucks full price (american) and from that the game still kinda pales in comparison to most games in the genre. A cash injection could add maybe a few organs that were missing. It sucks that Lance Reddick died for this part, but adding Abe or Liz with different story arcs could be cool, but probably not cheap...
My two cents... I'm definitely not on the hate train for this game and i still think many things could be fixed. Unfortunately i think the only way things can change is with a solid cash injection at this point of the game's life cycle.
