Gungrave G.O.R.E Review (Thorny)
A NEW Gungrave game? I never in a million years would have thought they'd make another one even through watching the teasers of this one, but I'm glad I was wrong. A return to form. The casual murder of baddies by a cool as hell protagonist. I can do this all day. A great continuation to the storyline of the series and even lets you catch up on what you have missed or don't remember before you dive into the new bloodbath. There are WAY more chapters than its predecessors, so you're sure to get your fill on syndicate slaying. The landscape isn't as destructible as its predecessors, but that could be marked up as arbitrary. That does however make keeping a beat count a little more challenging which could be intended. The game has loads of new features to dive into as well. As of now there are very slight stutters due to complications with the Unreal4 engine the game is made on but they hardly hinder the gameplay and immersion. I think the price is justified myself, I've had a blast and intend on having more fun.
(edit)
About 5 hours in: Still having a blast and getting challenged the whole way. This isn't daddy's Gungrave, this one doesn't care about your feelings as far as swarming you with baddies and testing how hard you can kick ass and calculate a situation. Either conquer or turn the difficulty down. I'm truly surprised how long the game is, by 5 hours i've only made it to the first of the "big 4" where I would have already beaten 1 or OD. There are tons of cool upgrades I've yet to get and the skill shop works as intended. I want to go on record about the infamous "train level", it's a movement skill check that requires you to pay attention. I remember another great game that had an infamous train level... Just follow the damn train! All of that said, I've noticed the voice acting leaves some to be desired. Some characters are voiced/mixed better than others, I give the voice acting a B-. Anyway, I'll come back with more comments as I complete more of the game. Get to it!
