Grim Dawn: Crucible Mode DLC Review (Lex)
* I gave a negative review of the game as a whole and played the crucible only a couple of times, mostly after the campaign at level slightly above 50.
+ you can stop the Crucible encounter after each wave and get rewards or take the risk to get more, which is cool
- I was disappointed that that enemies always come in waves - there was no other type of encounter and I was hoping for a constant barrage of monsters to push my build to its limits. Seems like it cannot be achieved in this game.
- I played through 100 waves of the first crucible difficulty (required to unlock next difficulty). It was boring work to be honest and took me more than half an hour to finish
- the rewards were somewhere between laughable and absurd. Experience gain was nearly non-existent, it feels like you get 10% or less of what you earn when defeating the same enemies during campaign. It should have been the same or better experience at the cost of increased difficulty! Complete disrespect of my time
- you only get the loot after you finish the entire ordeal and if I did the campaign instead I would have probably gotten one or two (useless) unique items and one or two minor improvements to my current gear. What did I get here? Absolutely nothing of any value of course
- I also got no constellation points, which I would have probably gotten if I played the campaign instead - that's a major way of increasing my power at this point, but even this was missing
I tried out the Crucible hoping for a challenge and a big cool loot explosion at the end and I only got offended instead.
To be honest it feels like Crucible is balanced as an alternative for late game and if that's correct then these pathetic rewards are something you can expect on average to get very late into the game as well. If so then it's very sad.
