Grid Legends Review (Red[Noise_Bomb])
This game does not deserve anything more than 'Mostly Positive' reviews. While it is definitely a step-up in comparison to GRID 2019, it still has a lot of problems.
- The opponents' cars are just brick walls. You can't spin them out or inflict damage on them, but they can absolutely destroy you.
- The damage is tuned down by a lot. I understand that visual damage is not as spectacular as in GRID 2008 for licensing reasons, but why do I need to launch a nuke in order to actually damage the steering of the car?
- A lot of bugs seriously affecting the gameplay. For example, if you create an Endurance race in the Race Creator mode, the starting grid will be sorted by teams' names (from my observations) no matter which option you chose in the settings before. Another example would be a very bad calculation of estimated time to finish the race for bots. Sometimes in normal races and every single time in Time Attack mode the game does a very poor job estimating when a bot will finish the race, which often results in you appearing at the bottom of the standings when you clearly finished first and were the fastest on the track all the time.
- The DLC content is pure garbage. It is clear that those packs were made just to fulfill the Season Pass obligations. Each of those packs is undercooked to say the least. Carnage DLC makes no sense with the physics this game has (See point 1). Endurance DLC adds Fuji Speedway, when Le Mans would make much more sense. And on top of that the devs again did not give a s**t about the game, so when you participate in a lower car class and win the race in your class, you will not get a gold medal for the event, because overall you were like 10th. Excuse me, how am I supposed to win in my Bentley GT3 against BMW V12 LMR? Ravenwest DLC was ok, but nothing to write home about. Winter Bash DLC is another piece of garbage. No new tracks and only 3 cars. They added new weather conditions and modes like drifting to existing tracks, but guess what? You can't use them in the Race Creator mode. They are only available in those 10 sh***y career events. And the cherry on top is that all those cool liveries like in Ravenwest DLC can't be used on your own car. Why? Because the devs didn't give a s**t about the game.
- Sponsor objectives. Absolute horror for completionists. They make you grind utterly stupid objectives like make 10 barrel rolls. Are we doing official racing or clown show? You might think that after hours spent on each sponsor you get something cool, but no. You just unlock another soulless event in the career mode. Instead of just adopting the GRID 2008 sponsor system, they decided to reinvent the bicycle.
- Teammates. As a tradition, your teammates will do everything they can to hinder you and your team. They (Yume and Valentin) are slow and unreliable. I would gladly fire them and hire someone with demonic speed like Jamie Christopher or Rick Scott, but we are not playing a 15-year old GRID 2008, are we? In 2022 we evolved from cool mechanics and now we make simplified cr*p, because who cares?
As a result, the devs got what they deserved. While I am sad that this is most probably the end of GRID franchise, I will never tolerate a bad product in hopes that the next one will be better. Now, I'll go play GRID 2008 with Xtra mod and enjoy it much more than the GRID games released after that.
P.S. Don't get me wrong. There is still fun to be had in this game, as reflected by my hour count, but I simply cannot overlook all the game breaking issues. That being said, I'd definitely recommend buying it at a 90% discount.
