Graveyard Keeper: Better Save Soul Review (bonesmasta36)
I've given luke-warm recommendations to the other DLCs and I genuinely enjoy and recommend the base game, but this DLC just can't be supported.
The story is extremely short and weak. The ending is a non-event that feels like the plot just suddenly stops in the middle. The writing feels lazier than earlier DLCs' and characters are, if I'm being generous, one-dimensional.
The new mechanics are lackluster, uninteresting, and generally work to solve problems that don't exist. Specifically, there's no need for remote management when you can already teleport and no need for high-quality bodies that take a bunch of extra work when endgame is easily achieved with existing body quality. Further, the ability to improve quality only improves money-making, when the graveyard is already dwarfed by other revenue sources and you've likely already gotten all the money you need long before maxing out a graveyard's quality.
The price is extremely high for the content that is offered. I will echo what others have said- this is worth ~$2, or even a free "thanks for playing, here's some new content." It is priced at half the base game, but provides nowhere near a fraction of its content.
If you really want this fragment of story, you could buy the DLC, or you could just read a half paragraph or so in a wiki entry and get the whole thing in a few seconds. You're not missing any worthwhile mechanics by skipping this one.
Edit- I will say, the soundtrack does add some nice stuff, so props to the sound guy! Also, I couldn't care less about decorating my house, so that feature has no value to me but if you're into that, also worth considering. I will also add it does "feel nice" from a lore perspective to fix the soul as well as the body, but that system feels so hollow, rushed, and empty that I just can't connect to it.
