Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising Review (Ocari)

I'll be honest, after playing this game for a full year, GBVSR is sick.
I can't tell how many things GBVSR does well compared to other fighting games of this era and yet, it's not as popular despite all the good things we have in this !
It really feels like a polished game overall.
- Menus are working well and everything is accessible easily without having to search for decades.
- Good online, rollback, matchmaking, lobbies, no issue ! (It's almost fun to just walk around and talk with people in the lobby)
- Ranked is also working well. (although it has a lot of wifi warriors and AFK players in lower ranks.)
- Lots of different modes outside of online battles. (story, arcade, figure, Grandbruise although there is not enough mini games and not many people to play with, robomi and we are getting survival mode in 2.0 ver !)
- Many Characters, all created with lots of love to the source material. (Vikala even has a JustinWong meme reference)
Each character has a lot of different color and weapon skins.
- Balancing is overall pretty great ! We had some busted characters and still have 66L spam but the devs are listening and after playing this game for a full year, I think it was great compared to other games. (and also the fact fighting games are HARD to make and balance.)
- Training mode has a lot of options although I would add a frame meter just like SF6 does. (a mod exist for that at least)
- Lots of different input options and macros available to play exactly like you want !
- A generous FREE version of the game is available and simple controls makes the game easy to access, they are well implemented and don't feel clunky or limited like other fighting games.
I introduced so many friends to fighting games thanks to this game. (some of them still play to this day !)
- You may have heard fighting games have DLC and battle pass issues, but GBVSR let's you buy the DLCs with the in game money !
You need to grind a bit but it won't take you months and months to get what you want. (If you want every DLC though... Good luck lol.)
For Battle Passes, the content is overall great for those who want them, it's completely optional and the free version is also cool.
I'm not really the type of player who will buy the BPs but none of them made me feel like it was a scam and they now sell you the content of older BPs as DLC if you missed one of them.
Overall, I really like this game because it's one of the rare ones where I just like to hang out in it, play a couple of games, have fun with Grandbruise for a little break and tchat with others.
I traveled in tourneys for this game and I lived so many great things because of it.
The devs are communicating well with the players and creates really fun things for us. (See their April Fools Joke as a reference, it was a fun thing !)
It's useless but they did it anyway, It just feels like they also have fun creating the game and it's just so cool.
We will even get Pop Team Epic crossover for lobby avatars ! Why ? Don't know but it's amusing !
Thanks for all the hard work you have done GBVSR Team, Arcsys and Cygames.
I'm genuinely happy with all the content you did and hope the season 2 will be just as fun and exciting as the first one.
Thank you so much.
