Golden Idol Investigations: The Lemurian Phoenix Review (idiotjuicyman)
I don't understand the negativity this DLC has received, as apart from one fairly big issue, I felt this DLC was great.
I feel that Golden Idol is at its best when just about all parties involved are terrible people, from sleazy con men, to money-hungry businessmen, to religious nutjobs, to incompetent dictators, to murderous colonialists, to self-righteous eugenicists; acting as an extended metaphor for humanities' worst traits. I feel that this DLC delivers on that aspect amazingly, especially with it only being 5 cases long.
Additionally, I felt that its non-chronological nature made much more sense than its usage in the base game, even if it is just the last chronological case being played first.
Now, as for the puzzle-solving itself, I found it to be the most frustrating that this series has had to offer. Too many of the blanks were vague enough to have a multitude of answers, meaning there were many instances of me knowing pretty much exactly what happened but having to find the precise wording the game wanted me to use. To me, this was the only part of the DLC I felt was rushed, with most of the "scrolls" feeling like they could use a second, more concise draft.
Even still, a great DLC with great music that reminded me a lot of the original 2 DLCs.
