Gnosia Review (Squalid)

Gnosia: a social fetish game

Gnosia... is a social deduction game, in short: amogus for people without friends.
But seriously now, I expected a lot from this game given its fame, what I can say may be taken badly by fans, but I simply hate this game.
Honestly, I was never attracted to Gnosia's social deduction game, what attracted me most to this game was the art. And, honestly, the art is by far the best part of this game (and in my case what made me endure the annoying gameplay and all the other problems of this game for 10 hours, until I gave up completely). The art is beautiful, but I must say that some characters have a terrible character design (yup, the gray alien is a complete waste of screen) and that was a disappointment.
But the positive points end there, let's now move on to the negative points. The game starts and throws you into loops without explaining anything. Of course, the fun is understanding the reason for the loops, but being thrown into the middle without even understanding anything about the game's universe was a terrible mistake. I must say that even after 10 hours of gameplay and reading the entire plot in a guide and videos, I still don't understand much and have completely lost interest in the game's plot.
This leaves us with the plot problem. It's simply terrible. The game is all about filling tables of character traits and that's literally it. This would be okay if the characters were complex, but no, all the characters are generic, annoying and empty, like NPCs from a NES JRPG. I simply can't read SQ's lines because I hate the way she talks, full of extremely annoying slang. The character table gathers super boring information, things like: character X loves Japanese food, Y has two left legs, W is shy, Z is aggressive and a good liar, etc. The trait table looks more like a fetish guide! Full of useless and unnecessary information! The game also explains the characters' sexual orientation when the game doesn't even have romance. I don't see the point in wasting time with that when the plot is so weak, literally fetishes and more fetishes.
The game lasts at least 100 loops if you know exactly what you should do (which requires a guide and a lot of patience). I lasted about 60 loops. On average, the game lasts about 30 hours, but its "plot" lasts about 1 hour. I played Gnosia because I love visual novels, but it simply doesn't make sense to play a genre of game focused on plot that has no plot. Each loop lasts about 10 minutes. Up until loop 30 I played seriously, paying attention to everything and trying to win, but the game never changes and everything gets tiring. I was literally spamming enter on NPC lines that are constantly repeated (the game doesn't even have much variation in lines per character, it's always the same phrase, it's maddening) waiting for an event to happen and, when it did, it was a completely irrelevant 15-second fan service scene. Reaching the true ending requires such specific requirements that I simply believe that only someone with a guide and a lot of patience would be able to achieve it. I have a finite life to live! I'm not going to spend 30 hours spamming enter waiting for 15-second scenes.
Of course, all of this could be justified if the social deduction "gameplay" was fun. But it's not. Up until loop 30 I played seriously, but the gameplay was never fun. The RPG mechanics, with levels, stats and skills are unnecessary, a way to extend the game's duration in an unnecessary and somewhat irrelevant way. The NPC lines, the simple idea that it's not worth it to keep arguing about who the impostor is when the loop only lasts 10 minutes and you're at the mercy of the CPU's good will to believe you. I saw the game's endings and was glad I put it down, because I found the ending extremely weak and disappointing.
I would be much happier with a game with fewer loops, let's say 10 longer loops, completely different from each other, with elements of social deduction, a strong plot and remarkable characters. Oops, I just defined Umineko, one of the best games in the world and one that I recommend to everyone, which carries out the same idea as Gnosia in an extremely more efficient way.
Gnosia has a very good idea, but a terrible execution. I don't recommend this game even to fans of mystery and social deduction. There are dozens of better games and Gnosia's art doesn't make up for its flaws. I wish you luck with your anime adaptation. The game's premise really works better for an anime, not that you can make this game much worse either...
