GigaBash Review (HOAI)
This game is a LOVE LETTER to everyone who loves Kaiju battlers and then some.
Pre-purchase impressions were that it'd be a semi-lazy, low effort attempt at recreating the Godzilla formula due to so many other similar attempts in the past from other studios. I couldn't have been more wrong, nor more happy for being wrong. There's so much love poured into this, clearly, and I regret ever doubting it. Don't get me wrong, the price tag is indeed a little steep, but it's real quality.
There's a real game under here, with fighting game mechanics, unique character movesets with synergy in their kits, cutscenes, missions, minigames, lore, a concept art gallery, and a feel that captures everything about kaiju and monster movies. Unlockables too, just for playing the game.
I know this is one of those games that are going to go under the radar. It's a niche audience and the price tag leaves a lot of people wondering if they should bother, myself included. I really hope there's at least a small but dedicated community behind this to keep the online at least somewhat alive.
As far as I'm concerned, it's something I forgot I wanted and it takes me back. I can see myself playing this with my friends a whole lot.
