Garfield: Lasagna Party Review (SmugPorky)
Sad to say as a Garfield fan this is not really worth your time even as a joke.
One very tiny map, with little to do other than pick left/right at a couple of forks in the road. You can use items to mess with other player’s dice rolls, but that’s about as deep as the board game mode gets, it’s really just luck what space you land on. The goal is to get the most lasagna, but you mostly earn that from the minigames. Feels like it was thrown in there just to have something to do that’s not minigames. The store page claims there are various locations, but it’s really talking about the backdrops for the various minigames, not the actual (singular) game board.
SPEAKING OF MINIGAMES, they all range from bad to average. There’s a decent number of them and we didn’t get any repeats during our 16 turn game, but we discovered at least one of the minigames is ripped straight out of another party game from the devs, “The Sisters: Party of the Year”, the broom cleaning one with the four colored squares you can see a screenshot of on that game’s store page, so it’s possible more are reskinned from that game as well. I’ll give that game some credit, it has a whole adventure mode which would have been a fun addition to Lasagna Party, even if it was half-baked it would have been fun to have something else to do. The best mini game here is probably the Bumper Balls clone.
There’s no voice acting or sound clips from the characters, save for a really out of place “angry cat” stock sound effect that plays before a mini game starts. Could have repurposed clips from The Garfield Show or something and it would have been serviceable.
The models and animations for the characters are actually pretty nice. Jon is there sometimes.
Feel like in 2022 (almost 2023 now!!) we should be getting slightly better Mario Party clones, even from licensed cash grabs!
