FragPunk Review (Menphues)
100% a game worth playing, not only because it is free to play but it's not a pay to win and offers a different takes on a team based shooter.
Graphics: The graphics in the game are incredibly crisp, clear, and visually stunning. Best of all, with maxed-out settings, I'm getting insanely high frame rates and butter-smooth performance. This has to be one of the best, if not the most optimised, games I've ever played. Without a doubt, the graphics and optimisation are amazing!
Audio: What can you expect from a shooter? It has all the typical gun sounds, odd dialogue, and footsteps. One peculiar thing is that you can hear sounds from all around the map, including distant gunshots that sound close. It’s a bit strange but not a deal-breaker. Overall, the sound is fine.
Controls: Rebinding keys is simple, easy, and quick with no issues at all. You can customise it to your liking with just a single key press. Happy days!
Game-play and everything else: The game is a team-based shooter similar to Overwatch and Marvel Rivals, but it features unique twists that set it apart.
The game offers a variety of classes to choose from. You start with a handful of options and can unlock more as you progress. Characters can be purchased with real money or unlocked through in-game currency and character coins. There are multiple ways to obtain them, both paid and free, and none of them are a grind, which is a great aspect.
Each character has their own unique playstyle and skills. While the guns are the same for everyone, it's their skills that set them apart. They all look different and offer various play styles, from smoke to fireballs to shields to lightning. Each one is distinct and worth trying out.
The only issue I found with the game is that players often don't bother to use VoIP or work as a team. This is frustrating because it can significantly hinder matches if people don't collaborate. It's puzzling why some players choose to play a team-based game without using communication or teamwork... Strange behaviour.
The game features a variety of currencies, which can be confusing at first, but you earn them as you progress. Both in-game money and real money can be used to purchase items, but all purchases are cosmetic, so there's no pay-to-win aspect. While some characters can be unlocked with real money, as previously explained, the game remains fair. Currencies play a significant role in this game, allowing you to unlock a lot of content.
The skins are also stunning. They feature cool glow galaxy effects with sparkly gun skins, which I prefer over the standard grey weapon skins. The game embraces its unique and colourful appeal, which is a big win.
There are a handful of modes to choose from as well. There is AI against bots for people who not like the PvP side, which is a nice touch because the game mechanics is fun and it’s nice to chill and play against some bots with friends.
The other modes are all different PvP stuff but still, a decent selection for a fun game.
The developers are highly attentive and strongly against cheaters. If a cheater is detected, the game ends instantly. You can report players, and the developers genuinely listen. This commitment has made me fully support the game because any cheaters will be swiftly removed. A big well done to the developers!
The game's card system significantly alters the match dynamics, with each card offering a unique effect that you unlock as you progress. Similarly, the maps are distinct and can be transformed by the cards. For example, one round might feature a standard map, while the next round could introduce snow-covered terrain for sliding or waterfalls to navigate. This feature enhances the already impressive maps by adding an exciting layer of variety
Would I recommend this game? Yes, without a doubt a superb team game with a decent learning curve. Worth the time to give it a go at-least and for me, it's a lot of fun!
