Foxhole Review (Judge Breadd)
This game is in such a good place from a wide overview. The wardens are almost a professional army and the colonials are a zerg faction (due to streamers/youtubers gathering people and also noobs). The balance I feel is good. The problem is all to do with the community; they are extremely unhelpful, judgemental, and elitist. Many other reviews echo this sentiment and honestly I certainly felt it was unfair. I thought "oh well you had this bad experience and judged the entire game on it" but I am here to confirm what they say is absolutely true. Clans walk all over new players, new players in groups, even old players if they're not affiliated with another clan that can actually tell them to shove it.
As a new player with limited knowledge and learning, I wanted to do artillery barrages. To do this you need to have permission to use someone's artillery piece (good luck) or to just make it yourself. I thought to myself, yeah I want to be self sufficient, the rest of the team is working together so lets not be a hindrance on them I'll prepare EVERYTHING myself and gather everything to make what I need, myself. I did this over the course of about 5 or 6 hours, gathered materials which are already camped by clans so you need to be on the trigger and get driving quick, then I put in some production lines on the factory to make my arty shells, then I manufactured the actual cannon itself, made my own transport trucks so nobody had any right to take them from me. I made a little encampment to solidfy this, made a sign marking the territory "please do not take" and stockpiling stuff into the encampment. But, with this so-called encampment, it contains a stockpile which is publically available. I thought to myself, who would drive all the way over here at this intersection to take something from me? I don't have a lot anyways, especially compared to large clans pulling in TONS of materials and working the factories 24/7, so I placed completely unfounded trust into the general public. The materials I gathered were quickly stolen overnight, thankfully the log showed me who took them and I reported them to the developers for stealing my materials despite me taking all the steps I needed to, to what in my mind was reasonably sequestering myself in such a way that people would not think my things were available for their use. The clan who took my materials did not apologize, were not remorseful, and were not at all helpful and were incredibly rude, condescending, and were blaming me for being a victim to their thievery. "You should have put it in a private stockpile" | "You should have hidden it better" so on and so forth. Only one person actually wanted to help me and stood up to the leadership in my absence, with my friend vouching and fighting to get those materials back for me. After about an hour and a half this specific person went above and beyond to truly make things right and was a proper gentleman about everything, meanwhile the clan acted like actual children threatening me and my friend if we ever tried to retaliate or mess with them.
This person is the sole reason I still have the game installed. The only reason I didn't refund this game is because when I decided to refund it I was at 2.4 hours of game time so I couldn't; it was denied. I would refund this game in a heatbeat and get my 22 dollars back or whatever it was. The combat is janky, you cannot suppress enemies with machine guns, you cannot decide the vertical angle you aim at so you end up shooting the ground or above an enemy's head, meanwhile everyone else is extremely experienced, makes fun of you for asking how to do better, and just kills you easily with zero issue. One tap.
In summary, logistics is a rat race and you will be backstabbed, stolen from, belittled, and disrespected for trying. Frontline combat is atrocious and you are not allowed to do what you'd like to do in an effort to contribute. You are expected to shut up, run forward, and be a meat shield for the veteran elite player base of clans who rule the battlefield. All the while world chat is filled with defeatist demoralizing remarks about how you're losing even if you're winning. Whining furries and weebs sitting around ALL day shitposting and discussing their fetishes, thankfully there is a mute function so that's not a huge problem in the end.
Generally speaking, avoid this game like the plague. It may look fun when a streamer is playing, it may look fun on youtube, but unless you are willing to join a clan, follow orders, sit down and shut up, do what you're told exactly and nothing else, then you will not have any success nor will you enjoy this game. At the time of writing I have 14 hours and since I am one of those users who always wants his money's worth, I will unfortunately continue to play much to my chagrin.
Do not buy.
Addition on 12/3/2021 - I am adding a new part to my review; Alts. So called alternate characters, alternate accounts, alternate players these people specifically join the team opposite of which they intend to support - warden players joining collies or vice versa - and go to the very back of the back lines, steal equipment, and there is nothing you can do to stop them. There is nothing you can do to them to kill them and wrenches allow them to open locked vehicles alarmingly fast (I timed it at 15 seconds to open a locked vehicle) and...bring them somewhere else you can't access them. EVEN IF you squad lock them, EVEN IF you take every precaution the game developers INTEND you to, to counter this problem, it is still ludicrously easy to steal your equipment and you can do NOTHING about it. There are no logs if they steal a truck you're storing, locked, properly hidden from the main roads, out of the way. Like I said above, it took me quite a lot of hours to get enough refined materials to make what I need to move a 120mm howitzer to the front lines, with shells, and materials to support us with repairs or with making a crane vehicle to remove it from the flatbed once we get up to the front. I did the same today, to prepare for tonight so my two friends and I could actually go play and stop driving trucks around. This was stolen and the game was uninstalled.
Do not install this game and do not buy it. It's absolutely terrible with a terrible playerbase and terrible development team who do not properly think out their gameplay features to prevent griefing that game developers should entirely be aware of this day in age, considering minecraft is probably older than they are. Forgive my insults but another day of work has been lost due to negligence not on my part.
