Forgotten but Unbroken Review (Grumpy Moses)
Pretty good. Feels familiar to classics and acknowledged titles like XCOM, Hard West, Phantom Doctrine etc. but with its own little twists and setting.
Pros:
+ Units and certain levels offer cool features like land mines, panzers and mortars which spice up the usual flank & shoot gameplay.
+ Each level has its own unique setting and maps are well made. You can usually tackle enemy in multiple ways depending on which skills and items you have in the party.
+ A lot of content, you'll easily get at least 30 hours of single campaign content.
+ Graphics wise it looks better than in the screenshots and runs well. No stutters, crashes or low FPS in the 8 encounters I've played.
+ Lots of interesting skill progression and party roles.
Cons:
- Main story's alright but not special. I like the small bits of real-life info scattered around the game more than the cut scenes.
- Voice acting is OK, but the contents of the dialog lack substance.
- Inventory management could be better (no sorting, f.e.).
- Quite difficult, I think many people would enjoy it more if it had some sort of difficulty setting. Similar to Long War mod, if you're a newbie and not familiar with the system it'll just kick your ass.
Overall thumbs up from me. I'll finish at least one campaign for sure.
It's honestly surprising to see so many negative reviews. A lot of the points people mention are actually in the game setting (mouse edge scrolling) or not that important in the overall gameplay once you set your base up (collecting less useful loot in levels before ending the map).
