Forgive Me Father 2 Review (Hans-Dieter-Karl-Heinz-Holger)
My play time has only amounted to just above one hour with FMF2, but what's been presented to me so far does not make my jaw drop from the fun I've had with the first game of the series. Quite the contrary. Gone is the adrenaline-inducing, furious, fast-paced play style not only due to much slower shooting including reload mechanics. Gone is enemy detection, since you can only barely make them out in the shadows and only after they start attacking you will give away WHAT they actually are. Gone is the easy-to-enjoy skill tree on the go, but you have to collect different "currencies" for gun upgrades and passive upgrades, that are spent in a HUB world. Gone is also the detection of items such as ammo, armour and even KEYS, because they so much blend with the environment, that it'll make you suffer to find the correct path to continue your endevour. Gone are easy pick-ups, since for some of the items you have to smash open some weird alien puss eggs, instead of just walking over it keeping the pace at an acceptable level. Oh dear.
Maybe, just maybe, the dev team can turn it all around. The aesthetics, the music, the sound effects, the models and so on are pretty damn fine. Not sure about the unhinged story at the moment, but they implemented some nice easter eggs at least. Which make you giggle and let your mind dwell. Level design wise, they also took a step back so far. Don't get me wrong, they are decent and I love how they are layed out in general, but they absolutely simplified all of them in comparasion. I'd absolutely love to leave a positive mark at some point in future. So please take notice and most importantly, don't regard those reviews as a whiplash. I guess, people who take the time to write those, want you to succeed with this 2nd installment. Having adored, loved, sucked in FMF1, I have high hopes for this one to improve.
: This game makes me think "Oh my, how long is this going to last", whereas the forerunner made me think "Dang, shame this sequence is over already".
