Flashback 2 Review (Ozric)
I let nostalgia get the better of me and brought it on release. It looks cool and although making it 2.5D is a little confusing at first it makes larger areas look and feel great.
I like the hacking minigame.
But.
-The aiming/shooting lock on is horrible, especially on flying enemies.
-Select is pause menu and Start is Inventory (seems a small thing, but it's very jarring). You also can't use d-pad for menu navigation.
-There's virtually no options so you can't disable any of the HUD, which pretty much surrounds the screen.
-You can't turn off tutorials either, and every time you get on the bike they play for about 10 seconds each!
-Speaking of the Bike. Why? You have to drive around a circular highway to move locations, full of cars and bikes which move all over the road and drive in between lanes. If you hit one it stops you dead, but there's no damage and you can smash into them as much as you want. It feels like you're just moving a sprite left and right on a scrolling road (very 80s).
-Quite bad stuttering in places.
-Glitches and bugs that cause missions to not progress. The auto saving is sporadic, so I lost 45 minutes of gameplay because I couldn't even load my previous save when a mission got bugged, because halfway through the mission I was on there that one got bugged every time.
-Save points might be bugged, some seem to only be able to be used once, saving mid mission normally bugs the mission.
There's a fair amount of stuff that can be made better, and I really hope that the team can make some changes and improvements quickly. But I am also worried about the fundamentals of some parts.
