Fights in Tight Spaces Review (Justin)
This game is like an M. Night Shyamalan movie. You're intrigue, the trailer hooked you, first fifteen minutes keep you in your seat. By halfway through the movie you're wondering how the hell we got here and you end up disappointed.
Played the demo, loved it. It's been on my wishlist for more than a year. Finally get it on sale. Early on, it was just like I remember and my first ten deaths were all understandbly my fault. Learning the game, the cards, and whatever else. Get to the final boss, die in an unavoidable situation when he's at 10 health.
Have not gotten back to him since. Not sure if the scores you get do more than just unlock starting decks and cards but I start to notice I am seeing new enemies 20 hours into the game that weren't there before that run. Now every other enemy is Aggressive, Turns to Face You and Auto-Attacks, Counters everywhere. My last run just introduced me to a guy with an automatic rifle who turns to face you and auto-attacks up to three times. And after having to take 20+ turns total that round to finally kill him and all his friends only taking 8 damage, he shows up again in my next fight in line with my Ambassador and just shooting him every time I move or attack.
Which by the way, horrible choice that the money players earn is usually "Beat the fight in X Turns". This isn't a mobile game telling me to 3-Star every fight. It's a Rogue-Like Deckbuilder, It's about survival on limited Hitpoints and "Heart of the Cards". Don't make it worse by telling me I took too long to survive. How about reward the players with more cash for selecting "Enhanced Targets & Lieutenant" rather than "Gotta Go Fast". I cannot even think of another RogueBuilder that does that Cash-By-Turns thing.
Moreover, I had a friend watching my stream and he made a good point. We're huge fans of films like John Wick and The Raid. And in the films, the protagonist often uses people's own weapons against them. Yet, the FITS devs didn't think a Disarm card could be a cool thing to do. Maybe steal a Hatchet from the Hatchetmen and get a 3x Use-Hatchet Card? The FITS main character should die in a tight space because he's regarded.
Almost 30 hours in and I wish I never bought this game. This idea seemed super good on the cover but the guts are lazy. The sequel has a party of characters, team up attacks, weapons, and other sorts of goodies that this game didn't even attempt.
