Fez Review (Frowny (vincentninja68))

I'm conflicted on how to feel about this game.
On one hand, I love how charming the art style is and it's abstract puzzle designs. I had a few moments where I had gone "theres no way it involves *doing this* to solve this puzzle right?" and it was! I had a puzzle that involved getting a phone code with your camera and it felt amazing realizing that.
My problem with this game is the last 3rd becomes a slog to play. Getting around the map is really slow and boring, the lack of a proper fast travel make collecting the last few cubes really un-fun. When I realized I would have to re-tread my steps/redo platforming sections just to get a room where I missed cubes, it completely drained all my motivation to keep playing.
I don't mind lack of fast travel if traversal is fun. But Fez is a very slow and deliberate platforming game. Some of these sections can take entire minutes to get through, and that's *with* the portals to jump to other areas. It's just too slow for me. There really should've been a proper fast travel for individual rooms that you could eventually unlock.
I ended up abandoning Fez towards the end of the game because I concluded I'd rather give my free time to something else.
If very slow and steady traversal/retreading doesn't scare you away, give Fez a try.
