Fear the Spotlight Review (Raziel)
+ The shadow-people child-ghosts that peek from around corners and watch you from the dark are hairraisingly spooky. Every moment with them is incredibly well done; they are not antagonistic, but boy do they up the tension and create the creepiest of atmospheres.
- Mr. Spotlight, however, isn't the least bit scary, sadly. Encounters with him can be slightly tedious too, especially when he interrupts the puzzle solving.
+ And that's because, while not the most challenging, the puzzles are fun to solve, engaging and make good use of the tactile elements.
+ Viv's final encounter with the Spotlight monster was pretty fun though and neatly uses the same tools you use to solve puzzles, which I found inspired.
+ The reveal that you can play from Amy's PoV as well at the end of Viv's playthrough was a pleasant surprise.
+ PSX-style graphics are very effective at building up the eerie atmosphere and give the game a great retro look.
+ The Lady of the Black Waters that occasionally stalks Amy is way spookyer than the Spotlight monster. Makes for some tense moments and made me jump once.
+ Story was fun to piece together across the two playthroughs, a budding romance between the two teens (with good voice-acting and well written dialogue) amongst conspiracies to hide a Phantom of the Opera inspired tragedy.
+ Ran without issues on the Steam Deck
