Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves Review (Silver K***ht Karmo)
Surprisingly, it plays great, I didn't expect SNK to fix the dumpster fire that was the first beta (I never got to play the second beta). Here's what I like the most about this game:
Price Point
SNK is doing a Special Edition only - but it's priced at $60, and it comes with the season pass. Wow.
Minimal Neutral Skips
SF6, Tekken 8, GBVSR all have neutral skips, whether it be Drive Rush, 66L, or seemingly the entirety of Tekken 8 at the moment. The way this game handles SPG/Rev Blow (Your Drive Impact / Power Crusher / Brave Counter Adjacent move) to be only active during a specific portion of your healthbar is incredibly interesting, and while it is incredibly annoying to fight (Air Rev Blow is super strong, and Rev Blow in general is not punishable), the limited time factor makes it much easier to maneuver, and interesting choices need to be made, for example, should you use more of your own resources to force the opponent out of their SPG state? Probably.
Netcode
Great netcode, minimal issues
Graphics
The stipple effect is really cool and unique, the graphics are clear, concise, and everything runs well.
Corner Doesn't Equal Instant Death
Coming from SF6, the corner in this game, while scary, is not immediately Guess for Game.
My small gripes are that a good number of characters feel really similar - a Brakeable DP, EX moves that link into each other, there's not much variation honestly because the combo system revolves around EX move cancelling into more EX moves. That, and because it's a 4 button fighter, there's not a ton of normals that you get access to, it's not like GGS' 4 button/normals structure, it's more like GBVSR (but GB feels like it's more because of 3 hit close combos)
I only have a few hours in but this is the easiest decision for a "side" game to SF6, I expect from a lot of people that it can become their main game. Oh and this game doesn't gatekeep you with knowledge or execution checks like KOFXV does!
