FAR: Lone Sails Review (Mdk25)
Playing this game, I was reminded of a conversation I had with a friend:
A friend of mine claimed INSIDE was a one-of-a-kind game, and despite it’s age, there are no other similar game that are as good.
I initially disagreed, and provided a half dozen games with similar play style.
But eventually I was forced to acknowledge defeat.
None of the INSIDE-styled games I know has the combination of graphics, gameplay, story and atmosphere on the same quality level as INSIDE.
The reason I remembered this story, is I think in FAR series games we’ve found a contender.
On the one hand a game that has graphics & gameplay on par with INSIDE.
And on the other hand has a unique and engaging world atmosphere.
The scope of the game is not very large.
It took me 3 hours to finish it.
Although there are additional achievements to be had, they do not require any new game mechanics and probably don’t include any new game locations.
So the game may be somewhat short - but I kind of see it as an advantage.
There are some restaurants that offer all-you-can-eat buffets for a fixed price.
And there are the ones that offer a small portion of a single well prepared dish.
FAR: Lone sails is the latter.
It’s a short, but a well executed game, the has a logical progression, and never feels too dragged out.
I can totally see myself continuing to play if some DLC with more content is released in the future.
It’s worth mentioning that I’ve played this game back-to-back with FAR: Changing tides, so I can’t really review it individually without comparing the 2 games.
FAR: Changing tides is tied in with this game by both the atmosphere and the story (although the story is minimal in both).
In some ways FAR: Changing tides is even better (it’s longer, and has more game mechanics to discover).
But in the end, the games are just as good, and I would recommend both
