Fantasian Neo Dimension Review (lloyd1993)
Man... so... where to start...
I have nothing but mad respect for Hironobu Sakaguchi and Nobuo Uematsu for what they did with the Final Fantasy series since Square first released FF1, but I just can't recommend this game. It's just the fact that everything about this game's UI screams "mobile" and I really can't justify the price for this game simply being a mobile port with a few minor additions. $49.99 here on Steam or even $59.99 on console is way too much, in my opinion. The diorama art style is exceptionally great from an artistic perspective, but I simply can't with the art style in an anime RPG game where I feel like I'm playing Fantasy Paper Mario with 4K HD models.
I would only buy this game if it is on sale for like $20 or something. The way you can move in the game is atrocious: you either click to move, or you switch to WASD. You can't have both, and you need to switch between these modes by pressing V. Once in the click mode, you have access to the UI menu; in WASD, you can't access the menu, and the mouse is also locked. Very poorly designed.
The next thing that annoys me is something that shouldn't even be a thing, considering the fact that the guy who is in charge of the music here created masterpieces for Final Fantasy. I really don't like the default music in this game. The good pieces are actually the FF titles, with the FF14 Endwalker (FF4 rearrangement) being my favorite. The music I picked to play during fights also didn't apply whenever I encountered enemies; the game's default theme proceeded to play, and I had to switch it manually every damn time.
Alas, the game is also not suitable for widescreen monitors in windowed/borderless window mode. I had to use Borderless Gaming (available here on Steam) to force it into borderless widescreen mode. So overall, not worth the price. Very sad.
