Fallout 4: Far Harbor Review (Neit)
Even though I cannot really recommend Falllout 4 without going on a huge rant with a list of very serious design issues, bugs and writing (you can look at my F4 review if you want to know more), if you are deep enough in the Fallout 4 rabbit hole and want to take a break from "Skyrim but with GUNS" meets "SIMS 4 - Wasteland Edition" and you want to play some Fallout, this DLC is for you.
This is the most fun I had while playing Fallout 4, and unlike the base game, I actually wanted to know what's going on and wanted to solve the mysteries of this small island. This felt like I am playing a Fallout game once again, with some backstory, moral choices and great environment. Even the side quests were actually interesting. This was a very nice change from: "Lets do this stupid thing because reasons" and your possible answers being: "Yes", "Ok",and "I need to prepare first".
Of course, this being Fallout 4 still has some downsides.
First of all, this DLC contains the infamous memory puzzles. While adding the puzzle section is not necessarily a bad idea, the execution was horrible. Controls are insanely bad, and you will actually struggle more with controls being bad than with puzzles itself. Good part is, that you do not really need to complete all of them (if you are willing to miss out on part of the story and some rewards) and even if you do them all, it shouldn't take you more than an hour to get through.
Second, while the writing here is much much more superior than the base game, it sometimes feels incomplete. There are several ways this story is tied to Commonwealth and it's citizens, but most of them are just dead ends, it would be nice, if those connections were actually somehow explored, or if they actually rewarded you for discovering them, instead of being just "Oh you are from X/you know X? Well anyway let's forget we actually talked about that".
If only base game was more like this DLC...
And you might want to take Nick along with you.
