Expeditions: Conquistador Review (Lloydsalot)

This game is a ton of a fun to play. However, do note that the dev's decided to not release the full game. One important character for you to recruit to your band of merry man, is unavailable in this version of the game. The devs decided to leave this character behind the kickstarter paywall. Meaning that in the now almost 10 years that this game has been out, they never decided to actually release this character from Kickstarter purgatory. Which seems a tad unfair to every single other person on steam who paid full prise for this game, expecting... THE FULL GAME.
I wanted to make this clear to people as it left an extremely bitter taste in my mouth that after an entire story arc showing compassion to this "Esteban", letting him live and trying to reason with him, the promise of the ability to recruit him, hanging over your head as you go through the story, the conclusion of this arc is an awkward text saying "I cannot join you", basically graying out the option, only to find out online that it's a kickstarter exclusive. At that point, maybe just remove him from the game entirely as to not shove it into everyone else's face that you didn't join the Kickstarter because you didn't even know Kickstarter existed back then lmfao.
Regardless, I'm having a blast playing this after having finished Expeditions: Vikings. You can see how much they learned from the time they made this, as I would describe their second game to be pretty much a perfect game. Combat is a tad more clunky, it's way harder and more unfair when managing materials and obviously there is no voice acting, while also leaving the music something to be desired. But, the combat is still a ton of fun and amazingly balanced, the story is fantastic, both in showcasing the individual characters you picked as your band of close Companions and the tough choices ahead of you, last but not least, it's in better taste than most stories about the Conquistadors, showcasing a more romantic adventuring spirit for the new world and it's people and cultures. Though ofcourse you can also just choose to be a chaotic evil bastard like Columbus :/
All in all, 7.5 out of 10, will play once, have a ton of fun and then never again.
