Expeditions: Conquistador Review (Leidolfrdin)
This might be one of my favorite games ever, certainly of this type of game at very least. It is very old school feeling, and very dialogue heavy, not for everyone but it has replayability and the dialogue is great, scenarios are great and change based on your team and actions.
Pros:
- The artwork, loading screens and little dialogue pictures, made to look like classical Spanish oil paintings
- The Music, with a mix of Spanish guitar and native music, though limited slightly is excellent
- Story rich, its a great story, great side stories, and dare I say a historically accurate story ( somewhat )
- Racism, the few negative reviews I saw mentioned how their party was racist and they were offended, first of all do you even KNOW who the conquistadors were?! Secondly just pick an open minded party if that's your issue, personally I liked that aspect of exploring racism and slavery and what have you, not alot of games do that. Some surprises will arise, I try not to spoil things but, a racist crew WILL do racist things and you'll be annoyed sometimes.
- Battle sounds, when you zoom in they change pitch, if ya near rocks they echo, they put alot of tiny sound nuances in this game I don't think people appreciated
Cons:
- Mechanical playability, it's clunky ,and you have to click things JUST right, which gets very annoying after a time
- Needs a larger view, or a view that scrolls more, when you're manually treking into the jungle, you will get annoyed by the lack of view, same with battles, dark battles sometimes, lots of having to shift the camera, lots of annoyance there
- Text heavy game has SUPER tiny font, and I mean super tiny, all that reading should be a little more readable
- Doesn't run GREAT for how low the graphics are it runs sort of choppy, and clunky
- YOU CAN'T SELL GOODS, when you need gold and have like 600 medicine, why cant I SELL medicine, all you can do is BUY, they messed that up.
- Ranged combat is a joke, you'll hit from 15 spaces away then miss right next to them, totally random
- Without giving too many spoilers, certain KEY battles come down to, I don't know how to word it, TIMED battles? Kill X amount in X amount of time, ensuring that no matter how well equipped you are its sorta just a mad dash and the outcomes meh, pretty random and wishy washy.
Overall I cannot recommend this game ENOUGH. If you like this sort of game, this is an AWESOME game. I got it on sale for like 4 bucks or whatever it was, and it was worth EVERY PENNY. Buy this game, seriously, BUY THIS GAME.
