Exographer Review (D00mnoodle)

Exographer is a fun cozy puzzle game that lets you explore a gorgeous planet and discover science along the way! As a chemistry major myself i recognized a few things but particles aren't my field of expertise so there were a lot of new concepts as well. Now my desire to learn new things is about as strong as my desire to play fun games though, and luckily exographer seeks to not only educate but also entertain. They do this with a slew of progressively harder puzzles that seek to challenge you. However, the buildup is gradual so you won't be left confused for too long. The puzzles are generally engaging but i found the real highlight to be the platforming of this game. After an akward introduction to the controls i quickly rebound my keys to something that fit and soon the platforming clicked for me. Later elements were added to keep it fresh and exciting and in the end the platforming was as much of a puzzle as the actual puzzles.
A mistake can lead you to die quite easily but that only sends you back to your latest snapshot. This game utilizes a picture capturing method to save your game which was incredibly well implemented. Because this allowed you to make a save point right before a tricky jump that you can reload to at will. Something that should allow even the worst platforming players to also enjoy this quaint but fun little indie game. Reloading was fast and versatile but If there's one area of improvement the game could do with for me, it would be to add a hotkey to instantly reload a snapshot. Because navigating the menus was sometimes a bit annoying as there's quite a few pages. However that was my only complaint, the game had a fun story throughout with a satisfying conclusion. I also really liked the beautiful pixel art and the soundtrack fit the game well, making an overal very relaxing game to spend the weekend on. It's both charming and educational so time well spent i'd say.
