Evil West Review (Mr_Choc)
In short: you play as a cowboy vampire slayer with God of War like combat.
Game is completely linear, with some story sprinkled in just to tie the levels together. But that doesn't really matter because the main focus of the game is the combat. It's fast paced, smooth and satisfying. With a nice arsenal of weapons and combos, and an impressive enemy variety, the combat is what absolutely makes this game. The first time I launched a vampire in the air with an uppercut and superman punched him into oblivion felt so good that i spent the entire level just running towards the next enemy encounter so i can "outcool" myself.
And that's what the game comes down to in the end. Running from arena to arena, blasting monsters away and wondering what new monstrosity awaits so you can kill it in a cool new way. Puzzles, story, unlockables, lore and other fluff doesn't really matter. That might put some people off, but I found it refreshing that the game isn't pretentious, and just delivers good old kick ass fun in a tight and rather pretty looking package (graphics are nice, albeit nothing special, UE4 is the engine and the visual style is awesome imo). My only gripe with the design is that the arenas are too similar, you already know when you approach a relatively open area that a fight is about to go down. I was never surprised. It's: "Oh i jump down there with no way back up? Enemy time."
Overall a solid game. It's not GOTY material, but it's worth it if you're into this type of action game.
