Euro Truck Simulator 2 Review (narficacid)
On January 4th, 2013 I first learned of this game through this hilarious video from Giant Bomb. Underneath Vinny Caravella's blatant disregard for the traffic laws, laws of physics, and the fact I cannot hear Adele's "Turning Tables" now without laughing out loud; I saw a game that I really wanted to try. I've always found long drives relaxing, and the idea of a video game existing for me to chill out to and do just that seemed...silly, but provocative. I tried the game and fast forward months...I already had 100 hours in it and had explored all of the European landmasses that existed at that point. I would come back to it as DLC created more land to explore, or when I just needed to play a game but I wanted something low-key. Over the past 11 years + the game has grown to include a staggering amount of content, whole truck management systems have been implemented, and further work is still happening in the game (the incredibly dedicated developers are going back to some of the original landmasses and adding new landmarks to make those early cities more accurate to their real-life counterparts even!). There's not a lot that I can say about the gameplay, honestly. You pick up a delivery, you take it where it needs to go, and you drop it off...that's it. If you, like me, like to do that in a fictional environment to explore a virtual simulation of Europe (or in it's sister game American Truck Simulator, the Western and Central United States), you won't find a better option. I promise.
