Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream Review (Aya)

Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream is a gorgeous and fun narrative-driven stealth game that is held back by its setpiece like stealth section design and short length. If Steam had a neutral review rating this would be a good example of such even if I had a lot of fun playing through the game it took me only 7.5 hours to beat it while collecting the majority of the optional collectibles (notes 63/68, collectibles 30/33) so even if you would aim for a 100% completion you're likely not going to get that much more hours out of the game which makes the 40€/$ pricetag a pretty steep ask especially for a game that does not really have any replayability.
Stealth gameplay is enjoyable but basic and the focus is clearly on the narrative, you generally progress through various setpiece like "stealth puzzles" which also means in most cases you don't really have a variety of tactics or routes to pick from but you're instead presented with a fairly linear stealth section to solve as you advance through the various twists and turns as the story takes you to various different locations within the city.
If you are looking for a more in-depth stealth game such as Shadow Tactics or Commandos you're not getting one from Eriksholm and especially if you are a stealth genre enthusiast this game is very easy in terms of the difficulty - although personally that did not make it any less fun to play through.
Storyline is probably one of the weaker aspects of the game as it doesn't really nail the landing but regardless it kept me interested for the entire playthrough and particularly some of the sections towards the end were almost admirable in their absurdity if you started to think about the scenarios a little more.
That being said if you're a stealth game enthusiast who is looking for a more relaxed and narrative focused experience I could recommend this but for everyone else I'd recommend waiting for a sale as the price point is rather steep for what you get.
