Endless Dungeon Review (Crabmaster4774)
I wish I could recommend this game to play, but I just can't. I'll start with the negatives that force this review the way it is.
Negatives:
- The game is absolutely RIDDLED with bugs, mostly audio and visual. These have led to many deaths due to not showing where enemy attacks are at, displaying attacks for much longer than they actually are active for (including from previous floors sometimes), and not properly displaying where your abilities will damage.
- About 50% of the stats you can gain are either unclear on how they work, work in a completely different way, or just don't work at all.
- All of these problems only get worse when they add new content to the game. None of the previous bugs are being fixed unless they actually soft-lock the run.
Positives:
- Everything about the design for this game I absolutely love. The visual design of enemies, characters, and abilities is fantastic. Everything feels like it is part of one cohesive universe and is really beautiful.
- The music gets its own line because GOD DAMN I love this game's music. I have been listening to the entirety of the soundtrack almost nonstop since the game released. I haven't seen a game match the classic rock feel like endless dungeon does.
- The characters feel good gameplay wise. There are a lot of synergies between each character that really make a run feel good if you take upgrades that work with each other (comrade and sweeper probably being the strongest example). I'd say that they all feel great independently as well (besides blaze, I don't understand how to make him work).
- Almost all of the weapons feel satisfying to use and building around and endless gun you find early can be really fun. Having 2 different weapons for 2 different purposes or swapping between 2 really slow weapons to basically fire both at the same time.
- The new content they added (when working properly) has been great for adding diversity in your runs. I really enjoy the card system at the start of each floor and the enemy buffs that influence where you travel to.
That should be all there is on my thoughts for this game. If it worked properly it would be one of my absolute favorites, but the game is and has been absolutely broken for too long. I still remain hopeful that they continue support for this game so i have a reason to recommend it to friends, but given that it has been almost a year and a half with hardly any bugfixes and only more bugs added there is not much to back that hope with.
