El Matador Review (RESENTMENT)
TL;DR:
If Max Payne is developed by a Czech and has a massive jank than what Remedy made back in the day. Only this time, the Czech change up the setting to Mexico instead. Also, game is bugged. Read more below, but in short: the game is not patched by the community, unlike Max Payne.
Summary:
I found this game by accident when I was watching someone reviewing Stranglehold (maybe Raycevik or another YouTubers, I forgot) and it came to this game, which got me interested. EL MATADOR. Like Max Payne, it follows a DEA agent, Victor Corbet. But instead of the mob, corporate spooks or secret society group, Victor fights the Cartel. Bascially, it's a predecessor to David Ayer's Sabotage in the narrative.
Gameplay:
Well, basically, like Max Payne, you use guns and shoot-dodge like the usual MP-clone. But this time, you can also AIM while shoot-dodge. This is before MAX PAYNE 3, so Sam & Dan Houser probably stole this mechanic from this very game. Unfortunately though, they only copied that, minus the Bullet/Euphoria Physic ragdoll, which they made it on their own.
Pros:
The gameplay despite it's own jank, it's still pretty fun and entertaining. There are massive massive weapons selection from the usual pistol to the Michael Bay Rocket launcher. Also the music in this game is absolute *Chef's Kiss* so GOOD!
Cons:
The story is not great. The gameplay, despite it's entertaining intentions suffered from loads of things. For starters, enemy is bullet-sponge and they will shoot you from random direction, which could make you die bloody faster than the average CoD matchmaking. The game also suffers from it's old factor, with the HUD, low-framerate and bugged shadows. I crashed a lot and the only way to fully played this game, is to set the game via Windowed mode and launch it STRAIGHT TO THE DRM-FREE executables, which would not track your playtime in this platform. Otherwise, good luck.
It's not a great game, but it's worthy for the price (on sale at least) and It's the only bad game that I don't regret buying, which is odd. I dunno, This game is a mixed bag for me. I would be fine with all the jank and the story, but the bugs are the annoying one. No one has made an unofficial fixes for this game, because this got low attention. Which is a shame, really.
