Earth Defense Force: World Brothers 2 Review (Shabranigdu)

Great fun, my favorite in the series.
Being able to play with a team is particularly important, one my biggest gripes about the main series was always being limited to 2 weapons (4 at best with a fencer) from such a tremendous weapon catalogue, always hated it and it often left me very limited against some enemy types during missions. Yeah it always encouraged coop, but that's more like trying to force it.
Despite the sd voxel graphics I consider this one the best because of the gameplay, I love the way you can actually play with 4 characters among a ridiculously vast roster, switch between them at any time, each of them with a weapon and 2 or 3 different skills (even more moves for the melee characters), many of these characters and skill ridiculous, over the top but very fun and varied, great to experiment with weapon and skill sinergies in battle. One of my favorite combinations is throwing a royal wall to protect a decoy and surround both with tornadoes, which makes all enemies advance to their doom in a giant grinder of death. Another fun combo since the first game is throwing a magic carpet mid air to let flying characters like wing divers recover energy and therefore achieve endless flight.
Another little nice aspect is being able to equip 2 accesories on 3 versions of the same character, which gives even more possibilities. Although many of these items don't have excessively noticeable effects, some are game changers.
It's a shame they removed couch coop, but online is good and each player has their own 4 character team which is great and makes things even crazier.
Last but not least, the story is actually kinda entertaining and funny, and the music quite recycled, serviceable but with some really neat pieces. I was surprised by how the victory fanfare, and at least one cool piece that doesn't play often changes the main instrument depending on the character you have selected, and it switches as you do, it's pretty cool, I'd like to ask everyone to try it in mission 63.
All in all it has all the EDF monster army massacre and scenario destruction goodness, plus all the above, so yeah, I love it.
