Dynasty Warriors: Origins Review (imsovereign.ttv)

Let's start of by saying i've been playing the musou franchise since i was incredibly young, i've nearly played them all.
If you want a TL;DR: I'd give it a solid 7/10.
The Good:
This game puts the musou franchise i believe in the right direction, new combat style is enjoyable and the RPG elements are a welcome guest. Graphics are an obvious improvement from previous iterations and the new models for officers feel more fitting. Dong Zhou no longer looks like a caricature of Chinese George Costanza and the upscaled resolution makes all the character faces look up to par with next gen games. The progression of weapons feels good and meaningful, overall good feel with the unlockable combos especially paired with the extra range charm (i'm looking at you chakrams). The difficulty curve and spike makes it so you don't just xxxyy lubu giant halberd spam and turn off your brain like you're used to, it keeps you far more engaged. You still feel like a 1 vs 1000 god warrior, but now you have to work for it a bit more.
Everyone who plays these games for the most part knows the entire story and probably skips over all dialogue and just comes for the combat. The "revisioned" story is actually very good and far more detailed than previous titles. I actually recommend listening in.
The Bad:
Holy ****** the screen tearing in this game is god awful please fix this
no co-op???
I also forsee this game being in microtransaction hell, mark this comment in your calendars when i say i told you so. There is not enough weapon variety, or outfits to make playing a single character worth it. I bet they add more weapons and outfits down the line for $15 a piece. This game desperately needs more weapons and more cosmetics, you can't go from warriors orochi 4 ultimate where you have 400 playable characters with different costumes to 9 weapons? 2? 3? costumes. Its just not enough variety and thats what makes these games so good. This game is Origins, so i understand this taking place a little earlier in the storyline however the characters they bring out from the cast are FAR from any fan favorites. Lets also talk about that you might as well instantly turn off the English voice overs because they are SO BAD its jarring. I'm just unsure you can justify spending $70 on this.
The Game is good, but it definitely has its flaws I think with time if koei takes more of this route Dynasty warriors will be restored to glory which makes us all warm and fuzzy inside.
